Champions!
I love it - this is going to be a 'never-say-die' kind of team. Saturday we looked flat, but Sunday we came to fight.
In the semi-final game, pitching by Jake and Blaise shut down the Smash. They were dominant and we got some offense going.
The final game started rough. Dawson was slinging, but we didn't help him much and lax defense dug us a pretty big hole. We were down 7-1 going into the bottom of the fourth. We put up three in the fourth, but gave one back in the top of the fifth.
The bottom third of the line up was due up in the fifth. After a bad call put Joe on the bench for the first out, Gabe drew a walk, Lincoln hit a single, and Shane drew another walk. Cayden came up with the pond full of ducks and ripped a double, plating all three.
Going into the sixth, Dynamite was down one, but the Blazers had the heart of the order coming up. Not a problem - bring in Parker. He mowed em down - striking out the side (and actually cracking a smile in the process).
We came up in the bottom of the sixth with our 4-5-6 hitters due up. Nathan starts the inning right with a rip down the first base line just inside the bag. He makes it to second standing up. Bracey gets himself a single, plating Nathan and tying the game. Oh, and he advances to second on the throw. Jake drops a bloop single in advancing Bracey to third. Big Blaise steps up with the winning run sitting at third. But, on the first pitch, Bracey takes home on a beautiful delayed steal - well coached Matt and TJ!
It was a fun game. Everyone contributed huge this weekend, making a key play when we needed it, getting the strikeout when we needed it, timely hitting, etc. Loved seeing the boys fight back and take the win, and hope that helps in future tournaments when we're down...but not out!
